About HunterValleyWineries.com

An independent guide to Australia’s oldest wine region, written for people who want more than a bus stop at three cellar doors.

HunterValleyWineries.com exists because the Hunter deserves more than a rushed day trip. It is an independent travel guide to the Hunter Valley wine region and its neighbours — written to be genuinely useful before you go and while you are there.

What we cover

  • How to reach the Hunter from Sydney and Newcastle, with realistic journey times.
  • Which tours are worth booking, ranked honestly and updated as ratings change.
  • How cellar doors work today — fees, bookings, groups — and which wines to look for.
  • What to do besides wine: balloons, gardens, food, wildlife and day trips to the coast.
  • Where to sleep and when to come.

How we research

Opening arrangements, journey times and prices are checked against wineries, operators, transport providers and booking platforms, and reviewed regularly. Tour ratings and review counts come directly from GetYourGuide. Where a figure moves around — tasting fees, ticket prices, room rates — we describe it in general terms and say so, rather than pretending to a precision that does not exist.

Where we express an opinion, it is an opinion. We tell you when a day trip is rushed, when a tour is overpriced, and when the free option is the better one. We are not a winery, a tour operator or a tourist board.

Responsible drinking

This is a guide to a wine region, and it is written for adults. The legal drinking age in Australia is 18. Please drink responsibly, and never drink and drive.

How the site is funded

We are a GetYourGuide affiliate partner and a Trip.com partner. If you book a tour or a room through a link on this site, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That is the only way this guide is funded — there is no advertising, no sponsored placements and no paid inclusion in any ranking. Read the full affiliate disclosure.

Corrections

Prices change, cellar doors change hands, restaurants open and close. If something here is out of date or wrong, please tell us — we would rather fix it than defend it. Write to us on the contact page.

Let someone else drive — you do the tasting

Australia’s oldest wine region is about two hours north of Sydney. Compare day tours from Sydney, local cellar-door tours with hotel pickup and balloon flights, and book in a couple of taps.
